Why What You Wear During Photos is Important!!!

Updated: Jul 13, 2022

Not sure what to wear to your photoshoot?? Let me help and give some pointers! I’ll send this to you after you book your session, but knowledge is power… even if it is drilled into your brain ;)

Please know that I’m in no way trying to tell you what you can and can’t wear and you definitely don’t have to listen to me BUT as your photographer, I want your photos to be beautiful and outfit choices can definitely influence that!

Here are a few key wardrobe guidelines to help you plan:

Color guide: I recommend choosing colors as close to your color palette as possible, but you are certainly welcome to veer from it if you wish! Neutral, warm colors look so dreamy in photographs. Think along the lines of terra cotta, blush, warm gold, deep brown. Cool colors that complement include shades of denim, hunter green, a range of grays, and basic black and white. Please avoid bright or very saturated colors, especially blue, red, and yellow, as they can reflect onto the skin and create less-than-ideal skin tones. Should you choose to have bright colors, consider using them for accents instead. Like in jewelry, shoes, hair accessories, or even something like sunglasses if we’re doing a creative session!

*Patterns: I LOVE a good pop of pattern! Try to keep pattern to a minimum, though - for example, a pattered scarf or undershirt can be a really cool way to add interest to an otherwise understated wardrobe. Too much pattern can be distracting and take away from the focus of the images - you and your love, or your family!

*Matching: It can be SO tempting to match each other, but please don't do it. Too much matching can look dated, and no one wants that! Some matching is fine, but you don’t want everyone in the exact same color, shirt, jeans, shoes, etc!

*Movement: Fabric that moves will add a ton of life to your images! You'll have the option of changing as many times as you would like (time permitting), so consider a flowy dress or skirt for one of your outfits. Formal or casual, the movement a skirt provides will look amazing in your gallery!

*Layers: Layers are great for two reasons; you'll be prepared if you get too warm or cold, and layers add an extra element of interest and depth to your images.

*Comfort: Comfort is key! Discomfort will always show in your face, and that's the opposite of what I want for your gallery. Whatever you choose to wear should be comfy and make you feel like the stunning human you are! I'll be asking you to run, twirl, dance, dip, etc, so ensuring you can move freely and comfortably is important
